Can I tumble aluminum (all gauges) successfully? To get rid of sharp edges, burrs, harden and polish up? I am having fun designing and making jewelry with aluminum and wondering if I can use a tumbler on the pieces like you do w silver and copper? Would I use the stainless shot?
Stacy's Answer:
I do not work with aluminum. I've been told that the mixed media shot preferred for tumbling silver, copper, etc. is not good for aluminum because it can scratch it. So round shot is used instead. Also, harsh detergents may have a negative effect of the shine of aluminum, so you'll need a milder soap to use in the tumbler. With no personal experience with tumbling or working with aluminum, I can't guide you in this. A quick Google search may help find the answers you're seeking.
