I've paired a rare petrified wood gemstone slice from a tree of an unknown variety with deeply heat texturized Sterling silver. The bubbly texture of the silver adds to the overall primordial feel of the pendant. A splash of pure 24 karat gold applied in the keum boo tradition adds a nice color contrast.
The original location of the ancient forest that produced the petrified wood? The fossil is from the Eocene period and was found on the Green River Farm in the Farson area of Wyoming. The petrified wood is gorgeous and rare with detailed wood patterning. The original bark - now stone - can be seen around the edge of the piece. Literally, a slice of ancient times. To create a bit of whimsy, I've pierced and sawed a small tree on the back of the pendant.
Totally hand-fabricated from Sterling silver, this pendant started out as simple sheet and wire. The pendant is roughly 1-1/2 inches (38mm) wide and 2-3/16 inches (55mm) long . Suspend it from your favorite chain or choose the one pictured here. The necklace and chain have been oxidized and given a high-polish finish.
