Sterling Silver discs stick to rubber barrel

I'm having a problem with my Lortone 3A tumbler. My discs always seem to stick to the rubber barrel. They don't really get tumbled and have black around the edges of the discs. Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Cara

Hi Cara!

I've only noticed discs sticking to the rubber when I'm pouring everything out and a few discs remain behind in the barrel. These are a combo of very small (1/4 inch-ish) and thin like 26 gauge. Rinsing doesn't always dislodge them, they have to be picked out. Even so, the discs still seem to tumble just fine. I've never had larger discs or heavier gauges adhere themselves to the barrel.

One of the features I like about the Lortones vs. many other brands, is that the Lortones have straight sides inside the tumbler barrel, which is supposed to help to more evenly disperse the items tumbling. I don't know why you are getting black around the edges of the discs. Be sure that you are adding sufficient water and a good squirt of dish soap to the barrel. If the discs are dark to start out with, you'll need to remove much of the excess oxidation first before tumbling to polish them.
